Origin of Kalayathinal Kudumbayogam

For centuries, members of the Kalayathinal family were primarily settled in Bharananganam. Later, many family members migrated to different parts of Kerala and abroad for various reasons, including employment, business, and agriculture.

Twenty-five years ago, K. M. Joseph Kalayathinal (Eappachan), the retired Headmaster of St. Cornelius High School, Kolayad, Kannur District, first put forward the noble idea of bringing the Kalayathinal family together. In order to realize this wish, he personally visited and discussed the idea with many family members. However, for several known and unknown reasons, the family reunion could not be realized.

Later, in 2024, K. V. Alexander Kalayathinal (Chandykunju), the retired Headmaster of Thidanad School, revived this dream. On the occasion of his 80th birthday, on 2 September 2024, the first meeting was held at his residence in Thidanad. On that occasion, he explained with great feeling the importance of bringing together all three branches of the Kalayathinal family for a complete family reunion and decided to convene another meeting with representatives from all three branches.

Subsequently, on 16 March 2025, an executive meeting attended by representatives from all three branches was held at the residence of Sri Thomas Sebastian, Kochuplackal. At this meeting, it was unanimously decided to organize, for the first time in the history of the family, a joint reunion bringing together all three branches of the Kalayathinal family.

Thus, the first “Kalayathinal Kudumbayogam Varshikam” was held on 2 October 2025 at the St. Joseph’s Church Parish Auditorium, Thidanad.

കലയത്തിനാൽ കുടുംബയോഗത്തിന്റെ ഉത്ഭവം

നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളായി കലയത്തിനാൽ കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങൾ പ്രധാനമായും ഭരണങ്ങാനത്താണ് താമസിച്ചിരുന്നത്. പിന്നീട് തൊഴിൽ, കച്ചവടം, കൃഷി തുടങ്ങി വിവിധ ആവശ്യങ്ങൾക്കായി കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങളിൽ പലരും കേരളത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിലേക്കും വിദേശരാജ്യങ്ങളിലേക്കും കുടിയേറി.

25 വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പ്, കണ്ണൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ കൊളയാട് സെന്റ് കോർണേലിയസ് ഹൈസ്കൂളിലെ വിരമിച്ച പ്രധാനാധ്യാപകനായ കെ. എം. ജോസഫ് (ഈപ്പച്ചൻ) കലയത്തിനാൽ കുടുംബത്തെ ഒരുമിച്ച് കൊണ്ടുവരണമെന്ന മഹത്തായ ആശയം ആദ്യമായി മുന്നോട്ടുവച്ചു. ഈ ആഗ്രഹം സാക്ഷാത്കരിക്കാനായി അദ്ദേഹം നിരവധി കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങളെ നേരിൽ സന്ദർശിക്കുകയും അവരുമായി ചർച്ചകൾ നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു. എന്നാൽ അറിയാവുന്നതും അറിയപ്പെടാത്തതുമായ പല കാരണങ്ങളാൽ ആ കുടുംബസംഗമം യാഥാർഥ്യമാക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.

തുടർന്ന്, 2024-ൽ കെ. വി. അലക്സാണ്ടർ കലയത്തിനാൽ (ചാണ്ടിക്കുഞ്ഞ്), തിടനാട് സ്കൂളിലെ വിരമിച്ച പ്രധാനാധ്യാപകൻ, ഈ സ്വപ്നത്തിന് വീണ്ടും ജീവൻ നൽകി. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ 80-ാം ജന്മദിനമായ 2024 സെപ്റ്റംബർ 2-ന്, തിടനാട്ടിലെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വസതിയിൽ ആദ്യ യോഗം ചേർന്നു. ആ അവസരത്തിൽ, കലയത്തിനാൽ കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ മൂന്ന് ശാഖകളെയും ഒരുമിപ്പിക്കുന്ന സമ്പൂർണ്ണ കുടുംബസംഗമത്തിന്റെ പ്രാധാന്യം അദ്ദേഹം ഹൃദയസ്പർശിയായി വിശദീകരിക്കുകയും, മൂന്ന് ശാഖകളിലെയും പ്രതിനിധികളെ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തി മറ്റൊരു യോഗം വിളിച്ചുചേർക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

തുടർന്ന്, 2025 മാർച്ച് 16-ന്, ശ്രീ തോമസ് സെബാസ്റ്റ്യൻ, കൊച്ചുപ്ലാക്കൽ ഭവനത്തിൽ മൂന്ന് ശാഖകളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള പ്രതിനിധികൾ പങ്കെടുത്ത ഒരു എക്സിക്യൂട്ടീവ് യോഗം ചേർന്നു. ഈ യോഗത്തിൽ, കലയത്തിനാൽ കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ മൂന്ന് ശാഖകളെയും ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തി ചരിത്രത്തിലാദ്യമായി ഒരു സംയുക്ത കുടുംബസംഗമം സംഘടിപ്പിക്കാൻ ഏകകണ്ഠമായി തീരുമാനിച്ചു.

അങ്ങനെ, ആദ്യ “കലയത്തിനാൽ കുടുംബയോഗം വാർഷികം” 2025 ഒക്ടോബർ 2-ന്, തിടനാട് സെന്റ് ജോസഫ്സ് പള്ളി പാരിഷ് ഓഡിറ്റോറിയത്തിൽ വച്ചു നടത്തി.
